Tropical Spice Garden

Tropical Spice Garden in Penang is definitely one of my most favorite places. The reasons are very simple: I am from Penang, I love nature and I am very eager to learn and understand plants, especially herbs and spices. I also am crazy about cooking using these spices. It is not difficult to see why this place fits perfectly with my passions in life.

The eight acre of sprawling estate was formerly a rubber plantation. It is situated at a slope of a hill facing one of the beaches at Batu Ferringhi.

The garden was painstakingly designed to follow the natural terrain and only created a minimal impact to the natural environment.

It really is a delight to take a stroll in the garden.

There are three trails which you can follow. Each trail has its own theme regarding the plants you can identify and also the landscaped feature.

Besides being a pleasant place to pass the time and ease your mind, the garden is also a perfect venue to hold a small event for a group of up to 100 people. Couples have exchanged vows amidst the natural green canopy. Memorable tropical weddings do not have to be done on the beach alone, just remember that Tropical Spice Garden has something really unique for your big day!

Corporate team building, treasure hunt and school reunions can also can be organized here. This place has several quite challenging tracks. For example, the Jungle Trail goes uphill and can be quite strenuous for those who are not that fit.

There are themed garden rooms. Ample plant signage are put up for identification.

Even children can enjoy the guided tour as it will definitely add to their knowledge in terms of how a humble plant can contribute to make the meal on their dish more delicious.

That's not all, little insects like butterflies and grasshoppers roam free too. The kids will have fun sweating it out while enjoying new sights, smell and sound of the garden. This is almost like Eden on Earth.

There is also a spice museum at Lone Crag Villa, an old bungalow which was renovated to house the museum, alongside a nice little souvenir shop and a sea facing Spice Cafe that has a spacious wooden deck.
