Green Mango Chutney Recipe


Green mango chutney recipe is one of many chutney recipes which is easy, cheap and good to make. It is a kind of cooked pickles. This chutney is usually served with briyani rice as a condiment. You can keep the chutney for several weeks in a glass jar or a plastic container in the refrigerator.

Ingredients:

  • 2 green mangoes, peeled
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • 1 tsp tamarind pulp
  • 2 tbs oil
  • 1/2 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 4 cloves
  • 4 cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 red chilli, chopped
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 4 tbs sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Method:

  • Cut the cheeks of two green mangoes about 2 cm thick, slice further into 3 cm pieces.
  • Combine mangoes with 1 cup water in a pot. Bring to boil.
  • Once boiling, remove from fire, set aside for 10 minutes.
  • Drain the mangoes.
  • Knead tamarind pulp with half a cup of water. Strain the juice.
  • Heat oil in a pan over a medium fire.
  • When hot, stir fry onions for 1 minute.
  • Add garlic, followed by cloves, cardamom and cinnamom.
  • Stir fry for about 5 minutes until fragrant.
  • Stir in chillies, turmeric and chilli powder. Mix well, stir all the time to avoid burning. Mix well for at least 3 minutes.
  • Add mangoes, sugar, salt and tamarind juice.
  • Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Cool and serve.
